about us: OUr mission

A systems thinking approach to global health

Our mission is to improve the health and well-being of low-income families living in communities facing frequent natural disasters.

Walking Palms Global Health (“WPGH”) deploy Systems Thinking and data-driven research to design and implement health initiatives in the coastal province of Manabí, Ecuador. This region lives under the constant threat of earthquakes, floods and mudslides, exacerbating the local residents’ existing health and wellness challenges. Our programs are rooted in three foundational disciplines: education, research and medicine, and empower local communities to address and solve acute health challenges faced by the most historically vulnerable groups.

We envision a future where all communities in the developing world that face frequent natural disasters are equipped and prepared to address the chronic and acute health challenges they confront by virtue of their geographic setting.

Communities in the developing world that face frequent natural disasters confront unique health problems. And while the international aid community excels at relief efforts in the aftermath of catastrophic events, longer term recovery efforts and preventative measures often go overlooked and under-funded. Low-income communities within these areas are most vulnerable, and our data show that these groups have a higher incidence of disease, mental illness and chronic health problems than even their slightly better off neighbors. WPGH fills in this gap, with medical services, scientific research and community programs aimed at improving the overall physical and mental health of these at-risk groups, empowering communities to be self-sufficient and resilient.
